Healthy Pet Resolution #9 - Make routine bloodwork a priority for your pet!
Routine blood testing provides valuable insights into your pet’s health, detects potential issues early, and helps with anesthesia and medication planning. Let us answer any questions you have about bloodwork for your fur-babies! Bailey had a great appointment with Dr. Matthew!
Healthy Pet Resolution #7 - Happy visits to the vet! Ray and Finn were so excited to come to Winterville Animal Clinic for their annual wellness exams! Their favorite part was definitely the treats. Here are a few ways to help your pets have a calmer, stress-free trip to the veterinarian like these boys! - Touch your pet’s paws, ears, and face regularly. Reward their good behavior! Start slowly and be consistent. - Take your pet on car rides to other places besides the vet. Give healthy treats to make this a fun experience! - If your pet rides in a carrier, help them adjust to that in advance. Bring their favorite toy to help them feel comfortable. - You can wait in the car or come inside with your pets for their visit. - If your veterinarian prescribes medications to help your pet stay calmer for vet visits, be sure to give these at the correct times and doses! Healthy Pet Resolution #5 - Mental stimulation!
Adding mentally stimulating activities to your pet's day and routine are a great resolution for this year! Pick one activity that encourages mental stimulation for your pet. Food maze bowls and lick mats are great ideas. Or teach your cat or dog a new trick! Playing hide-and-seek or a game where you hide a toy or treat are also ways you can provide mental stimulation for your fur baby. What activity do you plan to add or practice more with your pet? Healthy Pet Resolution #4 - Check the microchip!
Register AND update your pet’s microchip! After a microchip is inserted, the owner is responsible for registering the microchip online and updating the information any time there are changes. If you’ve moved or adopted your pet, you need to update their microchip registration online. A microchip is lifelong identification for your pets. Collars and tags, even air tags, can fall off and fail. At your pet’s first visit to Winterville Animal Clinic, our assistants will scan them to see if they have a microchip in place. Our veterinarians can answer any questions you have about microchips and insert them at the clinic.
Healthy Pet Resolution #1 - Healthy nails and calmer nail trims for cats and dogs!
Xena was so happy and calm during her nail trim! Rubbing and playing with your pet’s feet regularly can help them stay calmer during nail trims. Ask the veterinarian at your pet’s next exam how often they recommend nail trims for your dog or cat. This can vary depending on breed and lifestyle. Goal - Rub and touch your pet's feet (start slowly) more often. This will help them with nail trims and at the vet in general. Schedule a nail trim at Winterville Animal Clinic if your pet is in need of one. Nail trims are technician appointments and can be scheduled on our website. |
