We recently asked our followers what they would like to ask our veterinarians about microchipping pets? The answers are in!
Q: If my pet is lost and someone finds it, how will they know they belong to me? A: The person would have to take your pet to a veterinarian or animal shelter to be scanned. The microchip HAS to be registered. We insert the microchip but you HAVE to register it in order to be contacted when the microchip is scanned. Q: How long does the microchip last? A: FOREVER! But you MUST register the microchip after it’s inserted in order to link the ID number with the owner’s contact information! Q: Do you need to update it if you move? A: Yes! You need to update your pet’s microchip registration online if your address or phone number changes. Q: Is there anything different when microchipping dogs vs. cats? A: Nope! Q: Are there things you have to renew? Like a membership or anything? A: No membership! You just need to register the microchip after it is inserted AND update the registration online if any contact information changes.
